The paving brick are laid in a basket weave pattern. Notice the detail in the middle of the columns. The center course is called a
rowlock, where the ends of the brick face out and are laid vertically. The two columns on the right have a corbeled rowlock course detail, the two columns on the
left have a barely visible rowlock course, with no corbeling. By corbeling out two courses below and corbeling back in two courses above the rowlock, the over all appearance of the column becomes more substantial and interesting.
