This river rock face has used granite road cobbles from old downtown Denver surrounding the firebox.
This is in a basement located directly below this fireplace.
The arched inset to the right of the firebox is a place to hang fireplace tools. See the firewood storage here.
I built an interior room air heat exchanger into the back side and throat of this herringbone firebox. Heated air from the back of the firebox vents into a HVAC flex
duct that can be directed to any room of the house. Once the masonry heats up, hours of radiant heat are available long after the fire is out.
There is an outside combustion air intake in the firebox, further increasing heating efficency.
Since this house has hydronic floor heat, the fireplace and its heat exchanger offer a backup heating system for the cold Rockey Mountain winters.
